2012 Resolutions I May or May Not Keep

A new year.  A fresh start.  A clean slate.

It funny how on December 31 as we party it up we reflect on another year passed.  We have only a few hours left to lose the weight we said we would...to pay off the debt that's been compiling...to run that marathon we just never quite got ready for.  Does that sound familiar?  I totally agree.  So instead of working hard to meet those new years resolutions by july instead of waiting to the last minute, I take another approach.  I just make some nice detailed yet lax goals for the year.  Like a new soft pair of comfortable workout pants that are inspiring but make you feel so different than that tight pair of skinny jeans that are constantly squeezing you in all the wrong places and making you feel bad about yourself.   I enjoy my resolutions and I try to take them seriously but I really try not to stress about them.

Resolutions are inspiration for a better self.

Here are mine for 2012.

Resolutions for my marriage:
A regular date night, once a week.
I heard recently from a friend about a neat idea for date planning.
He plans a date he thinks she will like.  She plans a date she thinks he will like.
He plans a date he knows he will like.  She plans a date she knows she will like.
Not only does it inspire a little creativity, but it insures date nights don't always become dinner at your favorite Mexican restaurant and a browse around TJ Maxx Home Goods.  Or is that just the date night I always enjoy?

Eat dinner in the dining room with no T.V. at least twice a week.
You can save your criticism if its there for not eating there everyday.  I believe in achievable goals.  2 out of 5 is what is best for our resolution.  Make your own if you don't agree.

Attempt to speak my husband's love language more fluently.
Vague I know, but its just a general life style choice that I want to choose to do more consciously.

Resolutions for my body:
Decrease my caffeine intake to no more than 1 beverage a day.
I have had this goal every year for at least 3 years.  Varying medical professionals have suggested it multiple times and I last about 3 weeks before I start slipping back into the delicious and rejuvenating refreshment of my favorite caffeinated beverages.  As you can see.  This goal is loosely added to the list.

Exercise at least 2-3 times a week.
No, I don't currently do that.  Yes that is awful of me.  I don't think the 3 reps I do of every exercise as I demonstrate for patients at work count for exercise.

Resolutions for my spirit:
Continue a morning quiet time most days of the week.

Remember the blessings.
I recently started a monthly ritual of documenting answered prayers and the best moments of the month.
I think its refreshing to keep a running list of the good in life.  I keep mine in my day planner and its a nice list to be able to look back on later in the year.

Pray often and sincerely.
And not just when their is a crisis in my life or in the lives of those I love.

Well there's my list.  I'll try to keep you updated on how things go.  I am hopeful for the year to come.

Baby Style

I don't know if its just that time of year again or if you have even noticed, but I think someone spiked the water. There are babies coming out of the woodwork everywhere! So in honor of all the new babies still cookin' and the ones who've been hatched, I'm sharing some etsy baby inspiration.

Baby onsies are so cute and creative these days...

Adorable Wall Prints from Gus and Lula and Caity Shinnick.

Baby hats! What is not to love about these sweet faces?
I know the pink hat on the right is a bit much, but how can you not love it on that baby!

Stuffed animals! Every kid needs one or two or maybe ten!

Baby boots! Need I say more?

Diaper Bags do not have to be drab... Look at this bag from Nest!
Love! Its just like one of the bag from one of the kids I used to babysit. Of course you know I love the inside liner! Now, I realize I am far from a rocker chick, but the liner unzips and removes and the bag can be used as a purse later or a carry on bag when you travel long after babies are grown. Come on...I know some of you like it.

Baby stuff is so cute! So excited to get started shopping for all the new babies in our lives.

Autumn Really Is My Middle Name!

These past couple of days as I stood in the back yard in my pj's and bedhead watching Paisley eat sticks and chase bugs, I detected a gentle chill in the air.  Then before my eyes, leaves slowly floated like feathers to the grass.  Sigh.  It was beautiful and got my think tank really revving with ideas.  Its fall y'all!  I am bursting with excitement for harvest decorating and craft ideas.

You may remember last year when I posted about one of my first fall crafting experiences with Crafty Caity Shinnick. (I know I am always name dropping her but I can't help it.  She's so talented.)  We made these.
I loved it and can't wait to pull it out of the attic this year.

Here are some of the things I am most excited about and some of my favorite inspirations for this fall.
You can find the links to these projects on my Pinterest here.

Can't wait to try some of these out with you this fall!

New Obsession

I have a new obsession.  I know what you're thinking..."Like she needs one more thing pulling her interests in another direction.  Her thoughts are already like a tornado."  And I totally agree.
I love diy home projects.
I like gardening.
I like canning like your grandma.
I like babies.
I like aqua blue.
I like white milk glass.
I like diy gifts.
I like couponing and all things money saving.
I love Christian fiction books like your 14 year old cousin.
I like blue ball jars.
I like blogging.  I love reading blogs.

Blah Blah Blossom.  I know.  Its too much.
But now I have found another thing to take my time.  Its called...

I'm sure you guys and gals are way ahead of me and already in on this, but I just started about a week ago (2 weeks now...I half wrote this post over a week ago...typical!).  I'm loving it!  It's like reading a picture book for blogs...No kidding.  FAB-U-LOUS!  You can see the picture of the thing you like then link out to the actual post about it and read more if you want.  Or you can just use the picture for inspiration on your pin board.  I love it!

I'm finding so many fun things on this site.  My favorite things to find are DIY projects for home and for gifts.  Who knew there were so many cool handmade gifts.  Here is my pin board for all things DIY Fabulosity!

You should check it out.  Its such a great place to get ideas. I've already made several of these things and it was awesome.  I particularly love the painted bottles, painted rug, and DIY bubble bath.

Now that the outside of our home is about done I'm searching for ideas for the inside.  Since we've lived here for oh only about 6 months and I haven't hung a single curtain!!  Oh well.  We did conquer the biggest DIY project in the universe that I will be blogging about later today...who are we kidding more like later this week.

So long for now!  Go check out Pinterest.com.  I don't know how all the following other people's boards thing works but I know I'm following some of you.  For now I'm off to finish my last inservice as a student.  I'm officially done with clinicals in T-minus 5 days!

Inspiration Sensation Part Deux

My B needed a nap this weekend so instead of running errands I did a little inspiration search.  Here are my fav finds:
I love love love this headboard at The Feminist Housewife.  I need to learn to use a jigsaw.  I wonder can google it?  Probably shouldn't google things that if done wrong can remove a limb.
I LOVE bright and white.  This room is perfect for me!  And my sister in law needs that bench right now...She loves polka dots.

Check this:  Chalkboard headboard with dustless chalk.
This is not Mrs. Smith's 1st grade classroom.  Its a classy modern interpretation of a darling headboard.  On to the adorableness that is the silhouette!  I saw where you can make these from a picture in photoshop...too bad you have to be a genius to use it.

This is so unique.  I both love it and think how impractical.  I'd have to step up on a door to get in bed.  Then I see the mantel headboard and I'm in love again.
I like these curtains from the Nester.  It seems unlike me.  I'm not really a caramel colored girl.  But right now all my walls are tan so perhaps that is what drew me to this picture.  I also like the idea of these bold stripes in grey/white.

Random:
I kinda love this ABC wall.  Maybe in a shared kids room or an office/homework room or a playroom.

So now I have all this inspiration and I'm totally at a loss on where to start.  I'm too overwhelmed to really get anywhere.  Have you ever been there?  I feel like I have been living there for a while.  Here's to hoping I can get out of this decorating funk!

2011...The year of DIY design

I know what you're thinking...And yes I'm sure it wasn't 2010.  B and I just moved and now that we have a little more space we can totally DIY it up!  And as you would have it, I have a lot of time on my hands because I am out of town for 7 more weeks on a clinical rotation.  So since I'm without my B, I have been scouring my favorite design blogs!  Here are a few of my new fav's...

Cassie over at hi sugerplum! has some cute ideas I just might steal this year.  Check out my fav's!

Painted hi-boy dresser!  Love it!

Yucky bronze chandelier...granted yucky is in the eye of the beholder.
I like it and it only cost the amount of the spray paint...which you probably already have!

Cason and Shelley over at the House of Smiths also have some cute DIY projects...like...
The most organized wonderful pantry ever....awe...I love it.

Making a boring mirror look custom and beautiful.

My old standby fav's are...
You've heard me mention her DIY chandelier before...

I love open shelves in the kitchen like Britt did here!
And my momma found me some milk glass like she has here at my Papa's!  I'm so lucky to have a certified junkologist for a granddad!  No I'm not kidding.

I love her new headboard...I might make one this year.  On a smaller scale of course.

I'm definitely doing this project this year!

I love most everything these girls do...I'm sure this isn't the first time you've heard me talk about them and it won't be the last.

Hope you are as inspired as I am!
